How a Resize Actually Happens
Four steps, and the price comes before any of the work does.
We measure and inspect
Your ring goes on the sizing mandrel and your finger gets measured properly. We also check every stone and the state of the band before quoting, so there are no surprises later.
You get the price first
The quote is given at the counter before any work starts, and nothing goes ahead without your approval. Sizing down costs less than sizing up, because sizing up needs new metal.
The resize
Sizing down: a small section of the band is removed and the ring is soldered back into a perfect circle. Sizing up: a matching piece of metal is added in. We never stretch a ring.
Polish, clean and final check
The joint is finished so you cannot find it, the stones are checked again, and the ring is polished and cleaned before it goes back on your finger.

Sizing Down and Sizing Up Are Different Jobs
Which direction your ring needs to go decides the price and the time it takes.
Making a ring smaller
A small section is cut out of the band, the ring is closed back into a true circle, and the joint is soldered and polished until it disappears. This is the simpler direction: less time at the bench, no new metal, and often ready the same day.
Making a ring larger
The band is opened and a matching piece of metal is worked in to bridge the gap, then soldered, shaped and polished. Some shops stretch the ring instead because it is quicker. We do not: stretching thins the band and weakens it for good.
What We Resize
Rings first, but the same bench handles chains, bracelets and kadas.
Gold rings, up or down
22K and 18K gold bands, engagement rings and everyday rings, sized larger or smaller. This is the most common job that walks through our door.
Silver and platinum too
Silver rings and platinum bands are both resizable. Platinum takes longer at the bench than gold, and the quote will reflect that honestly.
Chains and bracelets
The same fit problem, different jewellery. We shorten chains, remove or add links in bracelets and kadas, and move or replace clasps so they sit right.
What we will not pretend to resize
Eternity bands with stones all the way round, tension settings and rings in titanium or tungsten mostly cannot be resized safely. We will say so and suggest what to do instead.

Sizing a surprise gift is a common request. Borrow a ring they already wear on the same finger and bring that in, and we will take the size from it without anyone finding out. And if the ring needs more than a resize (a worn clasp, a thinning band, a loose stone), our repair bench handles that in the same visit.

How much does ring resizing cost?
It depends on the metal, the design, and whether the ring is going up or down in size. Sizing down is simpler and costs less; sizing up needs a piece of new metal added, so it costs more. How long does ring resizing take?
A simple resize is often done the same day, and most jobs are finished within 3 to 7 business days. Anything involving added metal or stone work sits at the longer end. You get an exact timeline along with the quote, before you leave the ring with us.
How many sizes can a ring go up or down?
Usually up to about two sizes in either direction without putting the ring at risk. Beyond that, the band can weaken or the stone settings can distort. If your ring needs more than that, we will tell you plainly and talk through the options rather than force it.
Can every ring be resized?
No, and a jeweller who says otherwise is not being straight with you. Plain and stone-set bands in gold, silver and platinum are usually fine. Eternity bands with stones running all the way around, tension-set rings, and rings made of titanium or tungsten generally cannot be resized safely. Bring it in and we will tell you which kind you have.
Will resizing damage my ring or loosen the stones?
Done properly, no. The ring is cut and soldered, never stretched, and the joint is finished so you cannot see it. Stones are checked before and after the work and tightened if needed. Like all our repair work, resizing is covered by a 90-day warranty.
Do you resize rings bought from another shop?
Yes. A lot of the rings we resize were bought somewhere else, including rings bought online that arrived in the wrong size. Bring it to the counter and we will look at it, whatever its story.
Can you shorten a chain or adjust a bracelet as well?
Yes. Chains can be shortened, bracelet and kada links can be removed or added, and worn clasps can be replaced at the same time. It follows the same process as a ring: we inspect it, quote first, and only then start the work.

For most rings bought from us, resizing is complimentary within 30 days of purchase. Bring the ring in and we will sort out the fit. After that window, resizing is charged like any other job, quoted before we start.
