Why Mumbai's Window Opens Later
Pradosh Kaal begins at local sunset, and the sun sets over Mumbai about half an hour after it sets over Delhi. Vrishabha Lagna, the fixed sign that panchang rules prefer for Lakshmi Puja so that the goddess "stays", is computed for the same place. A calendar printed for Delhi therefore starts the puja before our Pradosh has even begun. Aim for 6:27 PM, finish the aarti by 8:27, and the timing is right for this city.
Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj
Govardhan Puja, or Annakut, is Monday 9 November this year, not the Tuesday most printed calendars carry, because Pratipada begins at 12:31 PM on the Monday. The Sayankala muhurat runs 3:46 to 6:02 PM.

What Goes on the Lakshmi Puja Thali
The traditional samagri list is plain: a new murti of Ganesh and Lakshmi, an earthen kalash, earthen diyas (five large, at least 25 small), red cloth for the seat, the bahi-khata, flowers and three garlands, bilva and tulsi leaves, sweets and fruit for naivedhya, sweet paan, durva grass. Clay is the tradition for the lamps and the kalash, and no amount of silver improves on it.
